BIOGRAPHY

Somewhere between minimalism and néo-classical movement, inspired by Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Philip Glass and Michael Nyman, Vivian Roost is a Franco-Swiss international pianist, composer and producer. 

Vivian Roost has taken part over more than 10 years in several audiovisual, theater projects and has composed for many artists. He is one of the songwriters behind the biggest selling French artist, ZAZ, who scored a double diamond record in France and sold over 3,4 million copies worldwide. His last album "From Home" has now reached more than 43M of streams worldwide. 

After his first EP Un autre monde and his first album Départ, well acclaimed by his international public, Vivian Roost released his second album The Seasons the 21 of march 2019, beginning of the spring season.

Inspired by haikus written by japanese poet as Bashō, Issa,  The Seasons's project is a tour de force by which the composer manages to give the poem an open sense by using a plurality of piano. Each season has been recorded on four one-hundred-year-old pianos, tuned in four specific frequencies in order to simulate the transition of each season. 

 

2020, despite of the covid situation, is a very creative year and marks his first collaboration with the prestigious classical label Deutsche Grammophon for the PROJET XII. During the lockdown in April, Vivian worked on the trilogy of the Gymnopedies Rework from the french pianist composer Erik Satie. Gymnopedie n2 - Vivian Roost Rework has been released on the Project XII in digital and in vinyl album. Released on the official youtube channel of DG, the official video clip was shot in France at the Suzac's beach (Meschers-sur-Gironde), the forest  of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and in Pantin and won more than 5 awards and 12 selections on international film festivals. 

 

In 2021, he signed with the UK label Pianoramix (Double J Music) and released the two others Gymnopédie Rework n1 & 3 (29th July), reaching now more than  13 Million of streams on Spotify.

Then follow two sucessful EPs The Memory of Time (nov 2021) and Colours (May 20th 2022), featured on the offical Spotify playlist Instrumental Study

Since end of 2022, Vivian Roost has seen unprecedented success over the last few months with his last and third album From Home, amassing a staggering more than 43 million streams globally. The single From Home is

featured on the biggest Spotify Piano playlist called Peaceful Piano.

The record received glowing support from renowned artists like Nils Frahm (featured on official Nils' s Piano Day playlist), further solidifying Vivian’s position as a rising star in the neoclassical scene. His unique ability to capture the essence of emotions and translate them into evocative melodies has resonated with audiences around the world. L’Espérance, his last EP released on 15th of September, is a collection of six captivating piano works that delve into the intricate tapestry of love. Delicately played on Roost's cherished 1909 years old Pleyel piano, the pieces evoke feelings of hope, doubt, melancholy, joy, sadness and expectations. “Each tells a state of the love process where everyone can identify with their own experiences,” Vivian says.

The EP's initial two singles have already achieved remarkable success, collectively amassing over 3 million streams. Saudade garnered support an other time from Nils Frahm, who featured it in the prestigious Piano Day playlist, as well as Spotify (Music for Concentration, Reading Soundtrack). Latest single and title track "L'Espérance" currently takes centre stage in Apple Music's Mindfulness playlist.

All his records since are mastered by Zino Mikorey in Berlin (Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds, Tom Yorke...).

In parallel of his artist career, he composed very often music for films, documentaries, short-videos and also for the theater. He often collaborate with the 7 fingers (les 7 doigts) from Montréal (Canada) and specifically with Samuel Tétreault, one of 7 founders. Infinity was selected for the well known show BOSCH DREAMS and Sam also performed live many times on his piece Autumn Rain ReworkHe composed in 2022 during the summer the full music of the new 7 fingers / Les 7 Doigts show called "Geysers"created and performed by Samuel Tétreault (First show 2022 sept 13th in Montreal - Festival Quartiers  Danses ). 

Vivian also recorded and performed the piano on the single Timelapse (2021) for the new electronica SAYCET's album  called Layers

 

From famous french venues such as « Le Reservoir » Paris, the Art Gallery Yellow Korner at Pompidou and the Louvre, the finest Museum of Art in Paris « Le Petit Palais », in Geneva (Switzerland), he had in 2016 his first successful Asia tour. He notably performed at the Swiss embassy of Thailand and also in Singapore and Bali. With his album The Seasons, he performed in 2018 in Japan and Thailand again. In 2020, he started the new year with a performance for the national "Reading Night" in St-Germain-en-Laye. After the lockdown, he played front of 800 people during sunset at the Nonnes's beach (Meschers-sur-Gironde) the 4th of september. In 2021, he performed in August at the Vendays-Montalivet cultural venue. He performed also for private events all over the world.
